The Great Range is an expanse of mountainous terrain on the eastern edge of the continent. Various clans have lived in the mountains for thousands of years, some of the oldest residents recalling great empires coming and going.

In modern times, the area was formalized into a coalition of colonies around 180 years ago, primarily in response to the establishment of the Northern Neeco Federation. The clans presiding over each colony have long histories (both good and bad) with each other, but banded together to present a unified front to the expansion of other civilizations.

At present there are 8 colonies, and despite their differences and several near-civil wars over the last century the Great Range has become a hospitable place for visitors, with major venues of transportation being at the forefront of their growth.

Despite the myriad advancements of accessibility, the primary residents are Avians and winged variants of other races. Due to the mountainous terrain, there remain some villages and locations that aren't accessible via terrestrial means.

The nation of the Great Range is commonly referred to as "the Range" by outsiders, but residents generally just refer to it as "the coalition" or via the clan name for their native colony.

The eight colonies are ruled by Da'yos, a term for warlord even though they have remained mostly civil during the modern era. They range in species from birds to gryphons to pegasi, and the only common factor is their ability to swiftly navigate their territory.

A tournament is held every three years to display physical prowess, with the winner earning a shared prize donated from each of the colonies. It is a major cultural event in the Range.
